Back For Seconds! Clinique Moisture Surge Overnight Mask Review

Clinique Moisture Surge Overnight Mask review

Starting with this post, I am introducing a whole series of posts for my most loved, most used and most repurchased skincare and makeup items, BACK FOR SECONDS! I am going to tell you what I love about them, what they have done for my skin and try to give you an honest (yet raving!) review of it and whether you need it in your life or not. All products are purchased by me and this is not a sponsored post. Lets get started!

There is something about discovering a great product, all on your own, and then telling the whole world about it! I do not have a count of how many people I have recommended this to, in person.. and now all of you are going to bear with some raving! I have always been a “dry-skinned” girl, up until last summer. Like my dry skin wasn’t trouble enough sitting in front of the computer most of my waking hours and with air conditioning, my skin was in huge trouble! Looking back I think it was more of a case of “dehydration” than “dry”, but whatever it was the Clinique Moisture Surge range has changed it for good.

There a little back story to this one. I had been looking for a non-greasy yet hydrating moisturizer which would keep my skin hydrated through the day without giving me that stretchy dry feeling by mid-day. At that time I was using The Body Shop’s Vitamin E day moisturiser, which otherwise lovely, would be completely sucked in like a sponge and off my skin by afternoon. I ended up at Clinique one day for some help and the SA introduced me to the Moisture Surge Range. I picked up their Overnight Mask for a deeper treatment for my dry/dehydrated skin.

I started using the mask every alternate night, as a night time cream/treatment and  I could feel a great difference in the texture of my skin come morning, when I would wakeup with a glow not shine and my skin gradually needed very little maintenance. I now required much less moisturiser in the day as my skin didn’t feel too parched and was more comfortable for longer! If the 4.6 rating on MakeupAlley is any indication, then you’d know we have a winner here!

What is it? Clinique describes it as Creamy, penetrating night mask helps skin drink deep to replenish lost moisture, build reserves for tomorrow. This description is spot on! “Mask” is actually a misnomer as this is not one of the clean-off wash off masks. It is a slightly pink, thick moisturiser with the difference that it gets completely absorbed into the skin with no greasiness or “mask-like” feel. It instantly plumps up my skin and makes it the most comfortable it has ever been. In fact all the reviews that I have read for this stuff, “plumped skin” has to be the most appeared quality for this!

Being fragrance free makes it ideal for sensitive skin and I have never had any breakouts with this product. You need a very small amount of this for the face and neck and a tube lasts a long time.

Clinique Moisture Surge Overnight Mask Review

It comes in a 100ml tube which retails for $33 or 2400 INR. I have had a tube for almost a year now and there is still some left. That is also because of my usage, but even if you use it more than twice or thrice a week, it will last you a good 6 to 7 months.

How I use it Twice every week now, and sometimes more if my skin hasn’t been all too well! I use this on top of my serum (Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair) to add extra hydration and sleep in it. The next morning, I have comfortable skin with no redness or dull ness and it looks much more even and plump. Another way for me is to use it right after a clay mask (Aesop Parsley Seed Mask). Clay masks a usually deep-cleansing masks and leave  the skin feeling a bit dry so instead of loading up on moisturiser I use this.

Who is it for? Anybody who has dry skin or is aware that their skin is dehydrated should give this product a go. If not like a mask, it can also work as a moisturiser. At $33 for 100ml it is much more economical than the Moisture surge Intense or Extended Thirst relief which retail for $49.5 for 50 ml tub. Extra points to this for the packaging which is an opaque tube and keeps the product clean and safe from all pollutants.

Last Word As with any skin care item it goes without saying that, A) It takes time to give results B) What works for one may not work for another. Keeping that in mind, and having used it for a year now, I can safely say that this mask has done wonders to my skin’s “health”. It may not work on the appearance as a clay mask would, but it has definitely “healed” my skin from within and made it stronger, for the lack of a better word! I no longer breakout as easily as I used to.. like right after a flight or during hormonal changes, and any kind of foundation or makeup product goes on much better on my skin as no dry patches exist! I have already re purchased this!

Clinique Moisture Surge Overnight Mask can be purchased at Clinique Counters, Clinique website, Sephora and currently on 10% off at Nordstrom.

I’ve used the Moisture Surge Intense, and while I liked it, I hated the fact that it was in a tub! I’ll definitely have to try this next… I can always use more hydrating products in my skincare routine.

    Hello Divya,

Found your blog through your comment on Karen’s and also a friend was raving about it. I must say you are doing a wonderful job.
Now, about the post. I really liked Moisture Surge CC Cream. I tried only the sample, but, it was a nice. I am currently using Clarin Hydraquench mask, which is really amazing if your skin is thirsty for hydration. I have a typical oily skin, but, off late it very de-hydrated and I can feel it. But, this mask is a savior. Try it! :-)

    • Divya

I am a big of the Clarins Hydra Quench range and I am currently using their Cream-gel moisturiser for day time! Its smells so so lovely! Oh My God I could keep repurchasing it only for the smell! Ill try the mask out on your recommendation! I have also heard good things about their serum from that line.. have you tried it?

  14. Emma

This sounds amazing! I have dry skin and am always looking for products to keep it moisturised. And you’re right, 4.6 on Makeupalley is an amazing score! I love that site, haha

  15. Cheryl

I absolutely love this night cream! I’ve been using it for about a year now and it worked wonders.
I did a blog post on it as well, raving as you did 😉

  16. Sunny

Hmm I can’t remember trying this one, but I remember liking Clinique Moisture Surge! I think I have a deluxe sample somewhere when I purchased my Cheek Pop. Maybe I should dig it out! I’ve been kinda sleep-deprived, and my skin is crying for help!

    • Divya

Hey Sunny! you better get all the sleep and all the moisture you can! You are getting married ! 😀 So exciting, congratulations lovely!! Best wishes! <3

  17. Shari

I’ve big respect for Clinique skincare because I’ve started my complete regimen using their 3-step system. I’ve moved on from that but I’ve always found myself turning to Clinique Moisture Surge when my skin is going completely bonkers during my skincare experiments LOL :)) Love love the Moisture Surge line!

I’m now using their Dark Spot Defense sunblock/moisturizer and so far so good!

    • Divya

Hey Shari! :-) I am yet to try anything other than the DDML and moisture surge line. I have heard good things about their Sun block, makeup and blemish control line! Lets see when the indulgence happens! :-)

    • Divya

Hey Faye! I got my first Aesop from Le Marais Paris and have been hooked ever since! So happy to have you here! glad you like my blog :-) Keep reading! 😉

    • Divya

Oh I haven’t tried that one! I have not used too many things from them.. for a lot of stuff Clarins had been my go to.. some how I love a bit of fragrance :p so long as it does not bother my skin that is!

  18. Smita Roy

    Hey Divya,
good to see new series on your blog…n ur content as usual great :) I am also back from Singapore and having so much fun reading all the missed out posts :) I tried Clinique at the airport but I just find the range too heavy for me…may be cos I have combination summers may be a little on oily side at times…but definitely looks a luxe product for oily skinned gals :)

    • Divya

Hello Ma’am welcome back! :-) For combination/oily skinned people it makes sense to stick to things that work for them! Hope you like the posts you missed :-)

  19. greenbeaniebeauty

I can’t wait to try this! I know you already suggested it to me, but after reading this post as well I am very excited to try. Loving your blog by the way and looking forward to more in this series :)

  20. vidya hemraj

Gosh I so look forward to your blog posts Divya! The layout, photos, content – all top notch :-D. Love this new series :-). As you know I am more of a drug store person but when I am ready to splurge, clinique skin care will be my first pit stop. And this maybe my first purchase. Keep up the great work! Maybe you should also do a post on how you manage work, personal life and this blog … :)

    • Divya

OMG Vidya you just made my day! 😀 Comments like your make me want to do better each day! I wish I was good at managing things but currently its a bit of a struggle.. Once things get in the flow ill certainly have something to share! SO happy that people like you are reading my blog! Thrilled! :-)

  21. scriptmaddy

and u know what Divya …..after i commented i realised I have this one and infact I havent used it much ….lolz
thanks for reminding me …i have to go back and use it more often….
I use moisture surge extended thirst relief as my day cream …..which is hydrating but extremely light and non greasy

  22. Kiss & Make-up

Well, these sure sound like worthy repurchases! I’m wondering if I could use this locally on the dehydrated parts of my face… I have oily skin but some areas seem to be seriously thirsty lately and I don’t know how to remedy it.

    • Divya

I have an oily T zone specially in summer and this does not exacerbate it! In fact this balances my skin a lot! You could try using it locally but even when used all over this wonderful! Start with a sample if you can score one!

  23. Faiza

I am glad that it worked for you…and thanks for starting this new series of posts..I hope this will be super helpful for your readers :-)

  24. Kaishki

Hi Divya, discovered your blog recently and i’ve been hooked!! Our skin care routine and product choices are very similar. Could you recommend a good CC cream that i can purchase in India/ or any other quick alternative to a complete moisturiser/primer/foundation/powder routine before work. Need something that can last at least 6-7 hours. I have combination skin, easily prone to breakouts and a bit of discoloration around my cheeks. .. Looking forward to hearing from you..Thanks a bunch!

    • Divya

Hey Kaishki! I am so glad you like my blog! :-) If you are looking specifically for a CC/BB cream may I suggest the Dior BB cream? I have a similar skin as yours, and this bb cream Its matte with a bit of glow, does not make me greasy AT ALL and stays put. Have been wearing it all summer now and no breakouts whatsoever. The coverage is medium and can be built up.. its very comfortable to wear and have a good color match for Indian skin tones. I have also heard good things about the YSL BB cream but never tried myself. I haven’t used anything other Dior so cannot really tell you about others.. 😐 Hope this helps!

      • Kaishki

Thanks Divya! I have tried the Diorskin Nude foundation in the past, and it worked decently well (although i am an ardent Chanel Vitamlumiere loyalist now). Will definitely give the Dior BB cream a try once i hunt it in down in India! ..Thank you so much :)

    • Divya

Yay!! :-) This is such a good product right? And very few people actually talk about it! Glad you like my blog! So thrilled to have you around! :-)
