Carrying makeup when I travel, especially when most of it is checked in, is never-wrecking for me! I am always always worrying about what would have smashed, spilled and slipped! I double pack, triple pack, put it horizontal, put it vertical, but some or the other mishap happens and I end up ruining my clothes! The answer to this is carrying makeup products which can hold shape, are not fragile, and come with a super sturdy packaging. I covered two of such “made-for-travel” things here, but other than these most of my stuff is pretty fragile and seeing them ruined breaks my heart!
Now a name like, Laura Mercier Custom Artist Portfolio might sound like a pro product not meant for ordinary folks, but thats not true! This expensive ($98) piece of clothing for beauty products is as much for a makeup enthusiast as for professionals! I got this last year during the holiday sale at Laura Mercier and have not been without it for any of my travels! It is compact, sturdy, sleek, and very spacious! This has taken all my makeup-breaking worries off my head and makes makeup organization very easy.
The portfolio comes in two sizes, Regular and Petite. It is usually listed as Limited Edition, but is brought back so many times that LE isn’t something that would describe its availability. I got the larger sized portfolio which is a double zipped case and opens completely on three sides as you can see in the image. It comes with four mesh pouches of different sizes and a middle detachable sleeve with one side for brushes and other side for palettes. The mesh pouches are detachable and are placed/attached in the portfolio with magnets.
Some versions of this portfolio also come with two empty compacts for keeping Laura Mercier eye shadows and blushes. With my Portfolio, I didn’t receive the empty compacts, instead I received quite a few of their makeup products including, a 6 filled eye shadow palette, lipgloss, eye shadow stick (fantastic stuff!) A cream blush and full size mascara.
On one side there are two equal sized pouches, I keep my eye products in one pouch and cheek/lip products in the second pouch.
The brush sleeve again is two sided. The brush holder side has a good number of slots for my brushes and the flap keeps the bristles from getting damaged. The other side of the sleeve is a large slot to keep any sort of makeup palettes. Sorry for the dirty brushes, I had packed this yesterday for a friends wedding makeup. She is a colleague and I wanted to do something nice for her so volunteered for doing her makeup! She was more than happy to have me and we had a great time 🙂
The other side of the portfolio has two more pouches. One pouch is narrow and I keep eye pencils in it. The other is much larger than the other pouches and is big enough for bottles and skin care etc.
This is an expensive purchase, but if you are one who invests in high end makeup or travels a lot this could be a life saver!
Thanks to the compact shape, it reduces the space occupied by makeup products in the luggage and fits snugly with the other stuff.
Let me know your thoughts on this. What are your favorite ways/makeup bags to carry makeup ?
Thanks a lot for reading!
