Have I told you guys enough times, that I hate foundation? No? I hate foundations! The heavy feel, thick texture and greasiness is something my skin and I cannot stand. I would rather go bare faced than wear a foundation which makes me feel congested and made up. With such a state of mind, it is a struggle for me to find something my skin can tolerate and NOT react badly to. Till last year I didn’t own any foundation except the Bobbi Brown Foundation Stick, which I’d use very rarely in spots, only for special events.
I came across this amazing foundation from Guerlain, which everyone was raving about at one point of time and adjectives like “second skin”, “breathable” and “light” were enough to give me a push! I tried it in store and loved it! It felt like nothing on the skin and disappeared leaving just a flawless glow behind!
A flaw with this otherwise flawless foundation, which I discovered later, was that it oxidized a little bit on the skin as the day progressed. Since I use a very light layer of it I don’t see much difference, but its definitely there. I am wearing it in the below picture.
The foundation has spf 20 which is a plus, but also means it might be prone to flash-backs. It is about medium coverage but can be built up to be nearly full on my skin. I never have a longevity issue with foundations as my skin is normal, and this stays on me the whole day without much fading.
A big drawback of this foundation for me is that it transfers on to clothes a lot! I learnt this the hard way! You better make sure you get your exact match because blending it on the neck is not an option! This foundation has limited shade options, with very few “lighter” shades. I wear the shade #03, which gets a tad light for summer but perfect for colder months.
The Bourjois Happy Light Foundation, I find to be as good as the Lingerie de Peau if not better! It has the same light texture (lighter), does not feel made-up, blends very easily and stays put for the whole day! I usually apply this with my fingers and it vanishes on the skin as soon as I put it on and does not leave any residue, powdery or otherwise. My skin still feels “skin-like” and comfortable.
The Bourjois foundation has no spf, so can be worn at both day and night. I wear the shade #53 which is a bit dark, but matches my summer skin perfectly. As with most drugstore foundations the Bourjois Happy Light has limited shades, but they do have something for everyone, especially pale skin tones.
If you are looking for a more affordable alternative to the Guerlain offering, the Bourjois Happy Light is your guy and might I say, better than the original! I love both, but I find myself using the Bourjois one a lot more these day.
Guerlain’s Lingerie de Peau retails for $61 on Sephora and Nordstrom. It is available at Guerlain Counters for upwards of Rs3200 in India. The Bourjois Happy Light costs £11.99 (currently on sale at £9..50) at Asos and at various drugstores in India(Rs 1495) and US.
Have you tried either of these foundations? How has your experience been? Let me know your thoughts!
