When I was younger I used to love “face wash(es)” that would thoroughly clean my skin and leave it squeaking! Little did I know that I was completely stripping my skin and turning it dehydrated in the process. As a carefree young girl, it never occurred to me to bother if I was using something suitable for my skin or not, “good skincare” was the last of my worries!
For the past couple of years there has been what I call the “cleanser wave” which took over beauty blogs and brands sometime in 2011? Every brand was out with a rich/creamy/balmy/oily cleanser in their lineup and the market was flooded with tonnes of options. Obviously, I was completely averse to the idea because – squeaky clean! Although, after going through countless reviews and tutorials for nearly a year, I started to warm up to the idea and the one cleanser which made multiple glorious appearances was this!
Little bit about my skin first. Until July and August my skin was combination, with an oily T zone (not excessively) and prone to shine by mid day. Come September and dip in temperatures has made it less oily and slightly drier on the dry areas. My chin area just under the lower lip and the area right around the nose are most prone to milia and breakouts. I have no known allergies to any ingredient but oily, fried food is my skin’s mortal enemy! In the future months I am going to have a non-oily skin which may or may not get very dry.
What is it : A rich white creamy cleanser, with Camellia oil packed with Omega 3 and Vitamins A B C and E which repair and replenish the skin, an all-round super tonic! It has Rose for its hydrating and toning properties which also soothes irritated skin. This is suggested for Sensitive, dry and combination skin types, and I feel oily skin folks may find it too rich for their liking if they are not used to products like this.
The cleanser is packaged in an opaque white plastic bottle with a really good quality pump. Pai packaging has completely won me over! You also get a muslin cloth along with the cleanser which is such great quality I am thinking of buying more of those!
Thoughts : I have really been very harsh on my skin and as a result of which its gotten very sensitive and easily irritable. This video “your face is silk” was an eye opener of sorts and things have been pretty different since!
I have used this cleanser for nearly three months now and have had the best skin in a while! The gentle claim on this is spot on and I have also used it a couple of times to remove my eye makeup which it does pretty well. The soothing effect of this is almost instant and I feel that it goes deeper than just the surface of the skin.
How I use it : I have been really enjoying this cleanser for both morning and night even on very humid days. I massage it gently on dry skin (courtesy Ms Hirons) and remove it with a warm muslin or wash it off with warm water, both of which leaves me with cleansed, supple skin with no trace of grime or makeup. Sensitive skinned people are going to love this one!
Meet the new creamy cleanser convert! I have a few now on rotation, the Oskia Renaissance Cleasnsing Gel which I started using just last week and already love it (more on that later), besides my trusty Fresh Soy Milk Cleanser for extremely “greasy skin” days. All three are gentle, soothing, balmy, and very effective on the skin.
The key to using any of such cleansers properly is that you should use it on semi-clean and dry skin, massage it properly and wash/remove them with warm water or warm damp muslin cloth. Rinsing with cool tap water DOES NOT remove it and you’ll be left with a lot of greasiness which I learnt the hard way! It does take a bit of an extra effort (atleast for me) to keep clean muslin cloths at the ready, needless to say its definitely worth it! The result is never the same when you hurriedly rinse it off or use it on dripping skin without messaging it.
Pai Camellia and Rose gentle cleanser is definitely worth checking out if the spot for a gentle yet effective creamy cleanser is unoccupied in you skincare routine and you are prone to sensitivity or otherwise. A great creamy cleanser, well worth the hype!
Rating : A
For UK and US readers Pai can be bought off their website and Spirit Beauty Lounge. For my compatriots BeautyBay is a safe option and Pai is also available on LoveLula.com and Escentual.com which ship worldwide for free.
