I have a brown-eye-shadow problem. My brain is hard-wired to never be completely pleased with whatever brown/bronze eye shadow I have and always lust after the “next best thing”. This has led to accumulating so many many eye shadows, its not even funny! This when I hardly wear eye makeup! So when I say to you that I may have finally found an answer to all my “brown-eye-shadow” prayers, you should take me seriously! *chuckle*
Remember that Nars heavy haul that happened in Spain? One of the things I had bought was this eye shadow duo in Cordura, which looked like the perfect combination of complex brown and a darker chocolate, complete with an awesome texture and super pigmentation! Well it turns out I was right! This is indeed all that besides being my new eye shadow obsession!
As with every Nars eye shadow duo, you get 4gms of product, in two complementary shades. This particular duo is very well put together, the lighter color goes all over the lid and the darker can be used to deepen the crease. I have been wearing these a little differently though. I wear the lighter color as a wash on the lid and the lower lash line and line my eyes with black kohl for the quickest-smokiest-sultriest smokey look I can ever do! The darker shade has a bit larger shimmer so I prefer using it to smudge a liner than wear it on the eyes all over!
The shadows are very soft although not as buttery as the Bobbi Brown or UD. I find the slight stiffness better because that allows me a lot more control. These do not crease on my super oily lids, but I find the wear is prolonged if I wear them on top of my Nars eye shadow primer.
I was hoping (not really) I’d have dupes of the colors in my stash to share with you, but sadly nothing is an exact dupe. I tried to compare the shades to the Urban Decay’s Naked palette, particularly the shades Smog and Darkhorse, which seemed close enough. They are actually the closest I found! The lighter shade in Cordura and Smog are different, with Smog being way more metallic and slightly lighter, while Darkhorse and the dark chocolate in Cordura are verrryy similar, with Darkhorse a touch more yellow-toned.
The Makeup Look
I wore it over the weekend which you may have seen on my Instagram. I have been wearing it every single time for the past couple of weeks. The shadows almost blend themselves and I don’t really need anything in the crease. Though if you may like, a warm brown like MAC texture, or even Nars Laguna bronzer-esqu colors would work really well with this eyeshadow.
The rest of the makeup in this look was mostly Nars. I covered some spots with the Radiant Creamy Concealer, dusted the Chanel Les Beiges powder on top, Nars Laguna Bronzer under the cheek-bone and Deep Throat blush on the cheeks. Dolce Vita lipstick on the lips and lighter brown shade from Cordura on the lids with Nars Laguna in the crease. Via Veneto larger than life eyeliner on the upper and lower waterline. Simple!
What’s been your go-to eye shadow recently?
