How many products do you think your skincare routine actually needs? I have brought it down to 4 essential rules.
Cut down on cleanser and cleansing : I know a lot of us are now addicted to the double and triple cleanse methods, but it may not be for everyone. My skin for one didn’t get on too well with my excess cleansing and I realised it the hard way. Too much washing and water hardness sucked out all the natural moisture and made my skin very dehydrated which led to breakouts. I only wash my face in the evening now with a gentle cleanser and skip cleanser in the morning. Just splash water, dry and use moisturiser. When I wear makeup or spf, I make sure I get the excess off with either my Shu Uemura cleansing oil or Bioderma Micelle Water.
No hard toners : I know how important toning can be for some but I don’t think I need it. I am much better off using a gentle mist like Avene, or Rose water from Forest Essentials for that and actually use it only to neutralize effects of tap water. Ever since I started doing this my skin has been way more balanced and supple.
Keeping it simple at night : I used to have a whole lineup of things to use at night, oils/serum, night cream, eye cream. Its an either/or situation now meaning, I either use an oil or a night cream or a serum. If my skin feels too dry I add my morning moisturiser on top. I have been loving the Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate and with that I have not felt the need for anything else. Its hydrating and balancing and come morning there is not a trace of oil on my T zone. My eye cream is still the Pai Echium and Argan one, which I think is the best from what I have tried be it Bobbi Brown, Kiehl’s Avocado, Clarins or Clinique.
Exfoliate-Clay Mask-Hydrating Mask once a week only : I love scrubbing my face, I still do but now I have restricted myself to just once a week deep cleanse. I usualy stick to a physical exfoliator/cleanser followed by a clay mask from Aesop and finishing it off with a hydrating mask from Clinique. Going overboard with deep cleansing dehydrates my skin and does no good. Its important I go easy and be gentle.
