We are almost at the the end of the “Favorites” series, and this time its about eyeshadows! Again, I hate throwing surprises at you so here we are with my favorite neutrals, browns and bronze eyeshadows which I think need one last mention before the year ends!
2014 has seen a clear surge in the number of times I have worn eyeshadows. Until last year the thought of using an eye makeup remover would make me cringe so much I’d rather not wear anything on the eyes! That changed, and this year I rediscovered and purchased some real gems which I can see myself wearing a lot in the years to come!
I usually stick to a single color all over the lid, and very rarely use two. Given the size and shape of my eyes I am usually pleased with just one color, besides there is always a high probability of me messing up the whole look should I feel adventurous enough to combine two colors!
Edward Bess Cosmic Bliss palette is a neutral lover’s dream! The colors, their complexity, texture and finish is exactly how I would want, shimmery, subtle and beautiful. The colors are perfectly neutral, not too warm and not cool and would work on a majority of skintones. The best thing about it is that a noob like me can work them to perfection! Read my (very old) review here.
Not technically a palette, but the Nars Powder eyeshadow duo in Cordura had my heart from the first swatch/wear! Especially the lighter of the two colors is the quickest one step smokey eye I could ever manage! I have written odes to this one here.
Surprise surprise! Chanel Mirage Illusion d’ombre is hands down my favorite eyeshadow of 2014! Released this year and a lucky happenstance landed this in my kitty and I couldn’t have been happier! Thankfully this is part of the permanent collection and rightfully so as this could be the prettiest color in the whole line! I wear it nearly everyday as a wash of color and this just adds a pretty sheen without looking “much” and can always be built up or layered under a powder eyeshadow for extra oomph!
In case you missed, I have spoken about my MAC Eyeshadows previously and the two standouts from my entire collection are Mulch and Patina. Both are gorgeous one wash, duo-chrome eyeshadows which look STUNNING on their own.
The one that got a lot of love this year was Soba. Now, I have had this for a while and never got around wearing it because it was another of those subtle shades which I didn’t quite see what the fuss was about. Only recently have I come to realise its “layering” potential! It works SO WELL with Mirage underneath and makes the whole look that much sexier and crease-proof.
Bobbi Brown’s Taupe Matte Eyeshadow is the most versatile eyeshadow in my stash. I think this will always have a permanent spot in my favorites because of the number of ways I can use it. As a cheek contour, as a blending shade, for an all over grunge look! A true neutral brown with the softest texture and high creamy pigmentation, there is nothing not to love!
The Eyeshadow Box!
In other news, I had another of my re-orgs this weekend and as a result I repurposed an old exotic jewelry box to hold ALL my eyeshadows! Can you believe that a 6″x4″x5″ box holds every single one of the eyeshadows I have?
Except of course for the doomed Urban Decay Naked Palette. I feel that unless I am left on a deserted island with the Naked palette and a MAC 217, I am never going to make my first dent in it, let alone wear it!
Coming back to the box, I bought it from FabIndia a couple of years back and until now it held all my jewelry knick knacks and was vastly ignored this whole time! Its a two storied, wooden box covered in an aztec print cloth and a little flap to open it. The top layer has a few partitions which comfortably fits my MAC and Edward Bess palettes along with a few creme ones. The bottom layer has no partitions so I can stack my eyeshadow singles, Z-palette and Nars duo palettes easily.
I am mighty pleased with this and the fact that I have everything in one place. This is now on top of my dresser and adds a nice distraction from the brass theme!
Let me know what you think!
