For nearly a year I have been rotating through my stash and making a sincere effort towards using stuff I own and giving it its due. This past month though a familiar and much expected fatigue hit me and I suddenly decided that I could no longer keep up with the rotation practice. I needed everything in one place and in front of me at all times!
I needed new way to organize things and most off all, “more things” to use from. My beloved tray of makeup wasn’t cutting it in terms of space and given its design I could not place a lot of stuff on it. After much thought and a heavy heart I had to give it a break and put to a different use and got myself a new organizer. I wanted something with sensible compartments, no random divisions and just about enough space to hold everything that I love and want around! I thought I’d share with you all of the makeup that I have on my dresser at the moment and what I’ve been using this month!
Lets start from the back. The organizer essentially has three rows of different width and divided in several compartments. The first row from the back holds the bases, tubes and bottles. The smallest block in the left hand corner has three primers, The DHC Skin Coat, Clarins Beauty Flash Balm and Bioderma’s Sensibio Pore Refiner. These are probably the least used products n this stash hence have been shoved back in a corner! Next to them lies my Dior’s Nude BB Creme and Jouer’s Luminizing Moisture Tint. I have been a long time fan of both and given a choice I’d wear either for the rest of my life! They are lightweight and light coverage add the faintest color and glow which looks natural and put together.
Strobing being the official buzzword this month, I have been getting an unprecedented amount of use from my Becca’s Shimmering Skin Perfector in Moonstone. I mix it with my moisturiser or foundation and apply it with my fingers. Serious glow which looks super glossy but does not feel greasy or tacky in the least! Speaking of foundation, I was reunited with my Makeup Forever Face and Body Foundation after nearly two years. Now, I am not really sure if its a good idea wearing a foundation as old but, the texture and smell of this is as good as new and it has broken me out so I am going to persist and keep using it! Basically, its MUFE’s answer to MAC’s Face and Body except its the more matte and more cooling version. I wasn’t color matched very well with it which is the reason I haven’t been using it, but mixing a little bit of Moonstone into it, I get that extra bit of yellow glow which the foundation lacks and the concoction looks lovely! Given how good Moonstone is, I really want to get Opal now which as per the internet should match my tanned skin better. We’ll see!
The last two things in this row are my Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders in Radiant Light and Dim Light. I had gotten so addicted to using them that every other powder in my stash was getting completely ignored. I pushed these back so I would use the others more but habits! I still reach for them a lot although powdering itself has taken a backseat this month.
The middle row holds my concealers, MAC’s Pro LongWear, MAC’s Select Moisture Cover and Bobbi Brown’s Foundation Stick which I mostly use as a concealer. I also have a deluxe sample of Laura Mercier’s Foundation Primer which I have been meaning to use since last year but somehow never did. The other two slots hold my cream blushes and powder blushes. I have my MAC’s Hush Cream Color Base which I use when I don’t have Moonstone on and this instantly gives me high cheekbones and luminosity with only a few dabs. I love this and this probably is the most natural highlight in my stash! (If natural highlight is a thing!)
Along with Hush I have the RMS Beauty Lip2Cheek in Modest and YSL’s Cream Blush in #2 Powdery Rose. I have been wearing Powdery Rose so much this month, especially this week and I am so gutted it has been discontinued! (Someone tell me its not true!) I think I love these just as much as my Chanel Cream Blushes. This pink color is perfect on my skintone and I have a lingering flush even after ten hours of wearing it. Need to find a dupe asap!
I have four powder blushes in the last slot, two from TheBalm, Frat Boy and Desert Blush/Bronzer and two from Tarte, Exposed and Blissful. Do you see a pattern? Coral pink and nude! I love all four and since their pigmentation and tone is quite different they don’t all look the same, atleast to me!
The front row is where the makeup royalty dwells! Eyeshadows, lipsticks and powders. I have my Chanel Poudre Signee Highlighter (limited edition), followed by Chanel’s Les Beiges Healthy Glow Powder in No. 20 and Guerlain’s Wulong Pressed Powder (limited edition). Wulong is a very lightweight, reflective powder which I have been loving under the eyes to brighten it with or without concealer. As a subtle highlight it works really well but if dusted all over it has the tendency to make me look a little ashy. The Chanel highlighter was a lucky buy and I really like it! It has very subdued shimmer and quite hard to detect on the skin but for no-makeup-makeup looks this is a lovely highlighter! Especially when I have Moonstone already on my face, a bit of this highlighter on the high points of the face just adds the loveliest sheen and gives my face dimension.
The biggest section on this tray holds my eyeshadows. For a non-eyeshadow wearer (or atleast an infrequent eyeshadow wearer) I have a LOT of eyeshadows! All the neutral eyeshadows I own are probably here. In the MAC quad are (clockwise, top left) Tempting, All That Glitters, Mulch and Texture. In the duo I have (top) Patina and Soba. The single eyeshadow is MAC’s Moleskin, a limited edition shade which perfectly matches my skintone. Two Bobbi Brown colors in Taupe and (bottom) Burnt Sugar which I spoke about here. A matte beige eyeshadow from the older line of Makeup Forever eyeshadows and Chanel’s mirage Illusion d’ombre. These are by far my most used eyeshadows and I figured it was time I had all of them together!
In the pink Z-palette I have MAC’s Peaches, MAC’s Ricepaper eyeshadow, a old MUFE blush and Benefit’s Dandelion blush in a sample size. Keeping everything here has helped me wear these eyeshadows everyday and I can finally appreciate the nuances in colors and shades of each and play around with them!
The next big section holds lipsticks! As you can see I am not short of options, ranging from lip balms to matte lipsticks there is atleast one of each kind! From Left to Right, YSL Glossy Stain in #7 Corail Aquatique, YSL Rouge Pur Couture #5, YSL Rouge Volupte Shine #16 Orange Impertinent, Chanel’s Rouge Coco Shine Scenario, Chanel’s Rouge Coco Shine Liberte, Dior’s Lip Glow lip balm, By Terry Hyaluronic Sheer Rouge in #9 Dare to Bare, Nars’ Tzigane, Nars’ Dolce Vita, MAC’s Hug Me and MAC’s Mineralize Lipstick in Glamour Era.
I have all my brushes and eye pencils etc in a simple wide glass jar. This has more space than it seems and it seriously holds everything I keeping shoving in it and never complains! Lip glosses, brushes, eye pencils, mascara, eye brow products, everything is in this and I strangely don’t have a hard time rummaging through it!
Of all the Zoeva brushes I have, I think the 105 Highlighter brush is quickly becoming my most used, most loved brush! I use it for every kind of powder application and the fluffiness and softness magically makes every powder look seamless and perfect!
What have you been loving this July?
