I have been gone a long long time and a lot has happened since, why the year changed of course and so did my habitat. I have a new home and a bright new beginning to the new year and I couldn’t be more excited if I tried! 2015 was definitely my year, in fact, quite possibly the best year of my life and thats saying a lot! Before my ramble goes out of hand let me pull it together and address the agenda. Favorite beauty products, yes!
I wouldn’t deem ’15 as a particularly exciting year beauty wise but I did wash my face! I’d say it was more of a year for good skin than makeup and as I am growing older I have observed a very strong inclination towards skincare. Makeup has become more of a step that just polishes things up and enhances whats already there than do anything transformative. This can be seen in the lack of foundation or base products in my favorites throughout the year and more mentions of blushes and highlighters. It could be just something in my head and there is no guarantee it wouldn’t change in the future; who knows you might even catch me with yellow eyeshadow one of these days. I have said too much!
Rant over, lets get to the point.
Another year devoted to neutrals! My makeup habits sadly remained the same throughout the year and any attempts to step out of the proverbial “comfort zone” was snubbed aside. I am a huge fan of the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders and this year I finally managed to procure them in full size. (1) Radiant Light has consistently graced my dresser ever since it came home and I don’t see myself steering away any time soon. Its a tricky one in the sense that on some days it looks like skin while on others it can look more bronzed; either ways it never fails to enhance my skintone and give it an obvious glow thats hard for the untrained eye to comprehend.
On the same lines, the (2) Radiant Magenta Blush has been a perk-er upper on dull days. I LOVE this blush, inspite of its obvious scary coloring which is intimidating to put it mildly. a BRIGHT pink fuchsia laced with the golden Radiant Light powder, this blush looks anything but natural in the pan. But on the skin its nowhere close to that scariness and just makes my face look glorious! Because this can be sheered and worn both mildly and boldly, its one of the best blushes from the line to try.
Thanks to an overall good skincare routine all year, I have had less base makeup requirements in general. (3) Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer and Real Technique’s Setting brush are a match made in heaven. The two together sort out any around-the-nose issues and under-the-eye-nonsense and do it quickly so I can spend more time on my favorite part, blushers! Talking of speed, (4) Burberry’s Almond is the first ever eyeshadow which I have worn consistently, everyday since I got it in October! This eyeshadow has converted me to eye makeup and I can no longer step out without a little wash of color on the lids. I love it!
Of all the years of swooning over Burberry’s makeup line I have had my eyes on the following: Lip mist in Copper, Sheer eyeshadow in Almond and Light Glow blush in Earthy. I am happy to report that I have now tried all three and can tell that they have been well worth the swooning! (More on this in another post)
I have been loyal to two makeup products this year: (5) Estee Lauder’s Nail Color in Dilettante and (6) By Terry’s Ombre Blackstar in Brown Perfection. Both were purchased on a whim (you know when you have nothing better to do than purchase insanely expensive beauty products, yes that!) and I have worn them on repeat all year. The teal nail polish is THE teal nail polish and such amazing quality. I am adamant on buying a few more from the line once the impulse to buy more nail colors strikes! In the same vein, By Terry’s Brown Perfection was a clear favorite when I sat around to mull over my 2015 favorites because I must have smudged this one around the waterline 3/7 days of the week, every week. The slight purple tones in Brown Perfection make it striking on my coloring and also make it more than just-another-brown.
The final mention and one I am surprised has knocked off a few other products to grab a spot for itself in my favorites! (7) W3LL People’s Expressionist Mascara has the most unassuming exterior but is probably the nicest thing I have worn on my lashes ever. Its gentle, comfortable to wear, easy to remove and very lash-defining. Its pretty much what I need to subtly enhance my lashline for everyday and oomph it up for special nights. The fact that its natural with “good” ingredients and sans any of the common skincare culprits makes it much easier on my conscience.
Skincare has had ample screen time on the blog this year, but an incomplete favorites post never helped anyone! On the top spot for the BEST skincare discovery of 2015 is MV Organics and both the products that I have tried from them this year, (8) Rose Plus Booster (review) and Rose Soothing and Protective Moisturiser have been amazing. I am very pleased with myself for finally caving in and dropping the cash for these two because take my word for it they are fabulous! During a spell of particularly bad travel-wrecked-skin I used the booster every night and could see the transformation in it in just a few uses. Its now more of a once a week treat since a bottle of it equals half my monthly rent (or used to) and running out of it won’t be a happy day.
I have never ever had a night cream in my routine and didn’t think I needed one until I used the (9) Trilogy Rosapene Night Cream. Now this was a bit of a surprise when I found myself using ONLY this on most nights and feeling content with my night time routine. A natural formulation, this is not greasy, not overly fragranced (the scent is from the essential oils) and a complete night time routine in itself thanks to its manuka honey and rosehip oil content. Expect a detailed review in just a short while.
It may come as no surprise to those of you who may have given my blog a read this year that I am hopelessly in love with the (10) Tata Harper Refreshing Cleanser (review). At an eye watering price and less than ideal glass packaging, this cleanser is in one word addictive! I treated myself to bottle no. 2 earlier last month and have no regrets. *sigh*
Talking of repurchases, (11) Radical’s Skin Perfecting Screen (review) now enjoys permanent status in my skincare stash. Having previously tried the likes of Clarins UV Plus, Kiehl’s Ultra Light, La Roche Posay Anthelios and countless tubes of Neutrogena’s Ultra Sheer sunscreens, I can now declare that Radical has knocked everything else out of the park!
Two new face masks (among a bunch of others) that managed to make my skin very happy this year are the (12) La Roche Posay Hydraphase Intense and (13) Ren’s Flash Rinse 1 Minute Facial (review). Each performs a different task, the former hydrates while the later exfoliates and polishes but both do it gently, effectively while maintaining my skin’s natural balance. I can see myself going through countless tubes of each as long as I can manage to buy them.
Body & Hair
The category I indulged in the least. I have been a L’occitane girl for years but last year Kiehl’s took front spot in my bath and body crew. I loved the (14) Creme de Corps – light (review) in summer and as soon as the temperatures dipped slightly I started using the original version. I only recently realised how glowy this body lotion is. No wonder people love it for the red-carpet-esque events; this is a highlighter for the body!
The last spot goes to my favorite hair product by far this year; (15) Original & Mineral’s Frizzy Logic (review). When I first got this, the brand was pretty much anonymous on the blogosphere but recently I have seen products from O&M being mentioned a lot! Good, because it does deserve all the attention it can get, especially this amazing frizz fighting serum which has saved my mane from becoming a frizzy ball of straw all through this year! I wish this brand was more easily available.
I kind of bought into the logic of “what you do on the first day of the year, you’d do the whole year!” and sat down to write this post in the middle of brown paper boxes still waiting to be unpacked. I have been a disappointing blogger this last year and I have every intention to change that in 2016. All ideas and encouragement are welcome, you are the reason this blog exists!
Wishing everyone a great 2016!
