One In One Out | Empties, Back-ups & Repurchases

aesop empties Aesop Resurrection Hand Cream

The blog has been pretty dormant the past few months which means I have not been able to talk about as many things as I would have liked, and a lot of ideas and things have just piled up around me. While I was clearing out my wardrobe today, as you do on a Sunday, I collected a mega pile of used up stuff which fortunately I had not binned yet. Very helpful indeed!

So I thought that before I restore this pile of garbage to its rightful place I’ll do one final rummage and present my thoughts – with a different approach. You see, some of these things I have already repurchased, while some I have had a second bottle/tube already in the depths of my stash. I thought it would be interesting for some of us to know how I feel about these “empties” and what made me buy them again!

Lets go!

Aesop Resurrection Hand Balm

Aesop Resurrection Hand Cream

Status | Repurchased, not one but two – one for the bedside and one for the handbag

Thoughts | I don’t know if anyone can catch me here but I started off disliking it! Apparently, I hate things in the beginning and then eventually end up loving them more than dear life sometimes. True story. I think what got me hooked to it was the scent which can be extremely calming when you are at the end of your nerves or very tired or very bored. This is perfect for a work day or the germaphobes among us who wash their hands way too many times to have any real skin-liness left in them!

Dior Lip Glow Color Reviving Balm – Pink Original

Dior Lip Glow Color Reviving Balm

Status | Backups, always.

Thoughts | The only color lip product I have completely used up. Not once but twice. One of my guilty pleasures in life is this very unreasonably priced lip balm. A habit I cannot quit. Luckily for me it actually works and not just looks pretty. I finished up a tube of the original pink and opened the coral tube to celebrate summer! Its just as good but with a stronger tint which leans more red than fuchsia unlike the original.

Nars Eye Makeup Remover

Vars Eye Makeup Remover Clarins Instant Eye Makeup remover

Status | Replaced with Clarins Instant Eye Make-Up remover

Thoughts | Nars made this one a dud. It was oily without really doing much for any eye makeup. That, when I don’t even wear waterproof products or mascara. I wouldn’t recommend it. Clarins on the other hand I remembered more fondly than it turned out this time. I think I am so spoilt by oil makeup removers that nothing else comes close. Its good but not perfect.

Clinique Acne Solutions Clearing Gel

Clinique Acne Solutions

Status | Repurchased

Thoughts | My tiny 15ml bottle lasted me nearly two years. I have tried the one from La Roche Posay and it didn’t do much, so when I found this and liked it I thought thats one thing less to experiment! You know what I mean? I’m sure there are other similar products which might be as good if not better and probably at a better price point too (atleast in India) but unless that product comes walking to me on its own two legs I am not going to go out and fetch it. This works just fine!

Kiehls’ Ultra Light UV Defense Spf 50

La Roche Posay Anthelios Sensitive spf 50 Kiehls ultra light uv defense spa 50

Status | Replaced

Thoughts | First, I am not really a SPF loyalist. Its been years since I have used the same tube twice in a row. Secondly, I didn’t like the Kiehl’s, much hyped and much loved SPF. Its greasy which I unambiguously detest, and it does leave a white ashy cast on my skin. I have dry combination skin and I didn’t like the feel of this one. And the price does not help me love it either. At half the price and 10 ml of extra product, the La Roche Posay Anthelios Sensitive Spf 50 is a MUCH better option. The texture is light, no greasiness, no white cast, no Octocrylene either (for those of us with sensitive skin) and also very easy to remove. Its essentially meant for kids but hey! I’ll take it!

Dr. Bonner’s Pure Castile Soap

Dr Bonner's Castile Liquid Soap

Status | Backup in use

Thoughts | So this is not just for the brushes. Although for brushes its just the best thing out there! I have even used it on my body, on my hair and for my muslin cloth too recently! Its pretty gentle and pretty good for all those things and quite affordable so why not? I used up the peppermint version and I am currently onto the Lavendar scent. I love both no favorites!

Original and Mineral Frizzy Logic

Original and Mineral Frizzy Logic

Status | Backup in use

Thoughts | I have reviewed this before, and I stand by that initial glowing review! It makes me love my hair not matter what day and what weather. This brand you guys! It needs a tonne of more press than it gets, although I cheer up whenever I find someone mention it! I have so far used this serum, their conditioner and a masque and everything is GLORIOUS. This isn’t silicon free which in the future is going to keep me from buying it but for those of you who don’t mind, look this up! Its amazing!

Skincare and body products empties

Some more things I used up were, Nuxe’s Reve de Miel lip balm – very reliable and very loved and a tub of L’occitan’s Ultra Soft Cream in the rose scent. I liked it a lot but a 100ml tub is not going to last very long! I also had a tub of the Ultra “Rich” Cream in a Rose-esque scent which is thicker and not as soft, which means I need less of it and will not go through it just as quickly!

While this lot has been binned now, I already have another growing pile of more “key” products that I have just used up. More on that later.

Hope you had a good weekend!
